Some interesting news here (and here) in San Jose. Tesla is a new car company, started by the founder of PayPal. They currently make $100,000 electric cars. They are purely electric (not hybrid), and have a range of several hundred miles. Plus they go 0-60 MPH in less than 4 seconds! More info on the cars is at http://www.teslamotors.com/.
They are pretty sweet, and a few can already be seen on the streets of the Bay Area. The waiting list is so long that they are sold-out for the next couple years of production.
The good news is that Tesla is going to move down the price scale and start building a $50-60k model, called Model S. And they are going to be built right here in San Jose, just a mile from my Cisco office! The plant will be built from scratch on some empty land by San Francisco Bay. Interesting that they chose one of the most expensive cities in the US to build their new plant.
Anyway, I hope to get on the waiting list soon :) The Model S cars won't ship until 2011, but it will be so worth the wait!
